West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech), a divisional four-year campus of West Virginia University (WVU) located in Southern West Virginia - Beckley, is currently inviting applications and nominations for the following employment opportunity:

The Department of Physical Sciences in the Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering and Sciences seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in Forensic Science to begin Fall 2024.

The ideal candidate must be able to teach General Chemistry courses and labs at all undergraduate levels and Forensic Chemistry (e.g: Forensic Chemical Analysis & lab, Analysis of Seized Drugs & lab, Trace Evidence Examination & lab, Arson and Explosives Analysis & lab, Analytical Forensic Toxicology & lab...etc.). The ability to teach physical science and/or other chemistry courses and labs is a plus. The successful candidate will have opportunity to develop at least one upper-division undergraduate course according to the expertise of the candidate and the needs of the department. Other duties typically assigned to WVU Tech faculty include service on committees, academic advising, and curriculum development. In addition, the candidate is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant program of research in Forensic Chemistry and/or Chemistry involving undergraduate students using instrumentation available in the department and serving the University and community. As part of ongoing development, our department is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments such as GCMS, SEM, FTIR, UV-Vis, HPLC, AAS, NMR, fluorescence......etc. with plans for instrumental supply to a Forensic Chemistry program. This position will be based at the Beckley Campus. The Department seeks a candidate who will demonstrate exemplary communication skills, collegiality, and the ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of WVU-Tech.

Date of Appointment: August, 2024

Salary and Rank: Salary commensurate with background and experience. Rank at the Assistant Professor level.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Chemistry or M.S. or higher in Forensic Science is required. Applicants must demonstrate a teaching background in Forensic Chemistry/Science and General Chemistry courses & labs through academic training. Excellent oral and written communication skills and a commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentoring are required. Effective teaching experience in Forensic Chemistry/Science & General Chemistry at the college undergraduate level and evidence of scholarly promise are highly desirable. All courses and labs are taught on campus in physical classrooms and laboratories, but the ability to integrate new technologies in the classroom and potentially teach online/virtual/hybrid classes and labs is a plus.
